A New Beginning

In the life of organisations, not all beginnings are alike. Some emerge as a continuation of what came before, while others signal a shift in perspective, a redefinition of purpose.

This is one of those beginnings. Not because it marks the launch of a new publication, but because it reflects the establishment of a platform shaped by a different intent: one that looks beyond the immediacy of events, seeks depth beyond headlines and engages with what is quietly taking form on the horizon.

In recent years, the world has witnessed an unprecedented convergence across the domains of politics, economics, security and technology. Their boundaries have become increasingly indistinct, their influence more intertwined and their trajectories more difficult to assess in isolation. With each shift, priorities appear to change, yet inevitably return to equilibrium within a broader and more complex system.

Experience, however, continues to affirm a deeper truth: that the essence of strength does not reside in these pillars individually, but in how they are understood, aligned and directed.

Between politics, economics and security, there is no inherent competition, only interdependence. What governs this interdependence is not hierarchy, but clarity of judgement.

The ability to read the present without being confined by it, to anticipate the future without disconnecting from reality, and to act with balance in the face of uncertainty; this is what distinguishes systems that react from those that shape.

It is from this understanding that Foresight emerges. Not as a conventional publication, but as a platform for reflection and analysis: one that seeks to interpret transformation, connect vision with practice and highlight the contours of a national ecosystem advancing with confidence, built with deliberation and evolving with purpose. The UAE has, over time, adopted an approach that does not separate security from development, nor capability from sovereignty. Instead, it has pursued a model in which defence industrialisation, strategic partnerships and technological advancement converge within a unified national vision.

This convergence is neither incidental nor reactive. It is shaped, intentionally, through leadership, clarity of direction and institutions designed not only to respond, but to enable.

As this first issue is presented, Foresight addresses its readership – locally, regionally and globally – not as passive recipients of information, but as partners in understanding and contributors to the broader dialogue shaping this domain.

It is guided by the belief that meaningful discourse does not lie in the volume of what is presented, but in the precision of its insight and ability to add clarity where complexity prevails. Accordingly, Foresight is built upon a structured editorial framework comprising six core pillars, each representing a critical dimension of defence enablement. These pillars remain consistent in their foundation, yet dynamic in their content, offering a coherent lens through which developments can be examined across successive issues.
